Rebuilding Sierra Leone with Dynamic Atlas Support

launch FAO web site One of the most successful implementations of SKE's Dynamic Atlas technology took place in Sierra Leone, Africa.

Sierra Leone is a country in recovery from years of war and the resulting destruction of its infrastructure, its land and agriculture base, and its economy.

In 2002-03, the UN’s Emergency Operations Unit coordinated a massive survey within Sierra Leone of food security vulnerability issues – such as access to water, health facilities, types and extent of crops and livestock.

SKE was brought in to make the survey results come “to life” by integrating these data with other national data and creating a Food Security Vulnerability Atlas that could be used by the government and the assistance community in planning and management of foreign assistance and rebuilding programs.

This project involved building and delivery of the atlas, the software, and capacity building with dozens of international, national and NGO organizations.
